Just a few weeks following the release of iOS 18’s final versions, Apple has rolled out an update to the firmware of its AirPods Pro 2.
What’s New with the AirPods Pro?
This update introduces features that Apple announced at the WWDC, including a new hands-free interaction mode with Siri. Users can now nod their heads to answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to Siri’s prompts.
It’s now possible to decline a call without using your hands or reaching for your phone (a handy feature in a crowded elevator or on public transport), or accept an incoming call (as demonstrated during the keynote by a user whose hands were busy cooking).
The AirPods Pro 2 also boast two other unique features: the ability to adjust the intensity of noise cancellation for both Adaptive mode and Voice Isolation (or Voice isolation, in Tim’s words).
The latter enhancement aims to provide clearer voice quality during calls, especially in noisy environments. If effective, this will be a significant advantage since headphone microphones typically perform well in quiet settings but struggle in noisier surroundings. The AirPods Pro will also support personalized spatial audio in games compatible with iOS 18 (Need For Speed Mobile will be the first game to feature this functionality).
This update is exclusively for the AirPods Pro 2, both USB-C and Lightning versions, and will not be released for the AirPods Max or other devices that do not have the H2 chip.
