Following the tremendous success of the first season of Wednesday, fans are eagerly anticipating the next chapter in Netflix’s series centered on the iconic Addams Family. Here’s everything we know so far about the highly anticipated second season.
Is “Wednesday” Season 2 Confirmed?
Yes, Netflix officially confirmed the continuation of Wednesday in January 2023, much to the delight of its growing fanbase.
When Could “Wednesday” Season 2 Be Released?
The first season of Wednesday took about seven months to film, with an additional nine months of post-production before it debuted on Netflix. Originally slated for a 2024 release, the project faced delays due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023. As a result, Season 2 is now expected to drop sometime in 2025, with filming likely kicking off in early 2024.
What Will “Wednesday” Season 2 Be About?
Wednesday‘s first year at Nevermore Academy was nothing short of chaotic, filled with gruesome murders, monster hunts, school dances, and a roommate with a wardrobe as colorful as a unicorn’s vomit. As she heads into her sophomore year, things are set to get even darker and more intense.
According to Jenna Ortega, the actress behind Wednesday Addams, the new season will lean more into horror while maintaining the series’ lighter tone. “We’ve decided to delve deeper into the horror aspect of the show,” she mentioned in an interview, adding that despite the eerie elements, the show will continue to not take itself too seriously, given its world of vampires, werewolves, and superpowers.
Season 2 will likely see the return of Tyler, confirmed by showrunner Alfred Gough. With Tyler revealed as the monstrous creature attacking students in Season 1, his relationship with Wednesday is bound to get more complicated, especially if he attempts to rescue his mentor, Marilyn Thornhill/Laurel Gates. However, fans can expect less focus on romance, as Ortega has openly criticized the love triangle in Season 1, emphasizing that Wednesday’s character will steer clear of romantic entanglements moving forward.
Ortega further confirmed this shift in tone in a January 2024 interview with E! Online: “The show definitely leans more towards horror. It’s really exciting because, while Wednesday has her own narrative arc, she remains fundamentally unchanged, which I think is a wonderful trait. The writing has really stepped up, and there’s a lot more action. Each episode feels almost like a mini-movie, which is pretty cool.”
Netflix’s casting announcements also hint at new characters joining the fold in Season 2. Among them is Karloff, an athletic teenager whose role will require prosthetics, and Uncle Wolfgang, a charming and confident young man. Another newcomer, Annie, described as a wise and intelligent girl aged 12-14, will also play a role in the upcoming season.
Who Will Be in the “Wednesday” Season 2 Cast?
The core Addams Family will return, with Jenna Ortega reprising her role as Wednesday, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), Luis Guzmán (Gomez), Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley). Other returning cast members include:
