While Apple remains tight-lipped about its ventures into the foldable smartphone arena, a new leak has surfaced, hinting at what might be on the horizon. According to the Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, well-known on Weibo, the iPhone Fold will feature two screens with distinct resolutions, one of which includes an under-display camera technology.

Two Screens, Two Resolutions, and a Book-Style Design
Echoing previous speculations, the iPhone Fold is expected to adopt a side-opening format akin to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold models. The primary internal display, measuring 7.76 inches, would boast a resolution of 2,713 x 1,920 pixels with a 4:3 aspect ratio, and notably, a front camera embedded beneath the screen—a first for Apple.
The external screen, more compact at 5.49 inches, would display a resolution of 2,088 x 1,422 pixels and feature a camera within a tiny notch (or mini-pill). This design allows for quick use without unfolding the smartphone, similar to other foldable models on the market.
Is Face ID Being Phased Out?
In terms of biometrics, the iPhone Fold might skip Face ID. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that Apple could opt for a fingerprint sensor integrated into the side button to maximize internal space. This decision could also enhance battery life by eliminating the need for a TrueDepth camera module.
A Premium Price Point
According to Bloomberg, Apple is targeting a 2026 release for this high-end foldable model, with a price tag around $2,000. This pricing aligns with the brand’s ambitions in this segment. It is likely to mirror the advancements expected for the iPhone 17 Air, with which it would share some battery, chipset, and modem technologies.
A Design Shared with a Future iPad Fold?
Apple is also reportedly preparing a foldable iPad for the coming years. As per Digital Chat Station, this tablet might feature an under-screen camera and incorporate Face ID, aiming to unify the user experience across devices.
These developments paint a vivid picture of Apple’s potential direction in the evolving foldable device market, blending innovative technology with its signature sleek design philosophy. Whether this iPhone Fold becomes a reality or remains a tantalizing concept, it certainly sets the stage for exciting advancements in Apple’s product lineup.
