A New Button to Leave a Voice Message After a Missed Call
In the latest Android beta version, when a call goes unanswered, a new button labeled Record a Voice Message
now appears at the bottom of the screen, next to the Recall and Cancel options.
This feature will allow callers to quickly record a message without having to manually navigate back to the chat interface to do so. This convenient option will bring WhatsApp closer to traditional mobile phone usage and enable it to compete with other apps, including the iPhone’s Phone app.
As of now, this new feature hasn’t been spotted in the iOS version through TestFlight. As is typical with new discoveries, there is no official timetable for a global rollout.
Addressing Everyday Needs
This isn’t the first telephony-related test by the Meta app. Just last week, another experiment was unveiled: a reminder system to help users remember to call back a contact after a missed call. Additionally, a new feature was introduced to assist users in composing their messages with greater ease, clarity, or creativity.
With these updates, WhatsApp appears to be emphasizing the importance of calls, even as many of its users today favor text or voice messages. Managing unwanted calls remains a task. Spam calls and bots are a growing problem for users. If WhatsApp is to enhance its calling experience, it will also need to improve mechanisms for detecting and blocking unwanted calls so that these new features are truly useful and embraced.
