Why Did Apple Only Make 4 of These Exclusive Apple Watch Bands?

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Apple Watch, Apple designed a unique Sport Band that was never released to the public. Only a few copies exist, and it turns out it was an internal test that was unfortunately scrapped before it could hit the market.

A Design Tribute to the Apple Watch’s Decade

The Apple Watch has celebrated its 10th anniversary. For this milestone, Apple reportedly created a special edition of its Sport Band. This unique model was never officially announced, yet several images have surfaced online. The design draws inspiration from previous special editions, notably the one released for Pride month, featuring a multicolored speckled pattern.

The unique aspect of this band is that the colors are said to represent the various shades of bands Apple has introduced over the years. The phrase 2014-2024: Ten Years of Apple Watch is printed on the back of the band, accompanied by a 10 encircled in the center. The clasp is black, a slight departure from the usually more colorful limited editions.

Extremely Limited Production

According to details shared by a reader on a Discord server dedicated to Apple Watch bands and reported by 9to5mac.com, only four units have been spotted to date. Two were sold on eBay last October, still in their original packaging. This packaging is the same that Apple typically uses to send prototypes to its color evaluation team based in Cupertino.

All signs suggest that this was a production test, conducted in a small batch, and never intended for official sale. Apple regularly conducts such tests for bands and other accessories, though not all projects reach fruition.

No Public Release

Although Apple has previously released limited editions for its employees, this band appears not to have moved beyond the internal prototype stage. There’s no indication that it will be distributed more widely, neither in stores nor through any official announcements.

It’s unclear why this band didn’t make it to production. Perhaps issues of timing, cost, or simply a lack of internal interest played a role. For now, it’s unlikely that we’ll see it in an official box. Unless, of course, you happen upon it one day on eBay or, even better, at your local flea market—always keep your eyes peeled!

Just out of curiosity, what kind of Apple Watch band do you use daily? Do you switch them out often? Personally, I’m writing this news with a very classic yellow fluoroelastomer band—quite stylish, but sadly not a collector’s item.
