6 Minutes and 46 Seconds
The Chinese giant’s electric SUV completed a lap in just 6 minutes and 46 seconds, making it the fastest four-door car to cross the finish line at this track. Although achieved with a stripped-down version and tires not approved for road use, this performance further underscores Xiaomi’s ambition to become a dominant player in the high-end automotive sector.
Xiaomi Challenges Tesla and Porsche
Xiaomi unveiled the SU7 Ultra at an event in Beijing, aimed at bolstering its position in the premium electric vehicle segment. Priced around $114,000, this model targets speed and performance enthusiasts, with features that compete with the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Porsche Taycan. With this powerhouse, Xiaomi focuses more on performance than on undercutting prices.
A Sporty Design
Drawing inspiration from the Porsche Taycan’s design, the SU7 Ultra stands out with its sporty appearance and lightweight build, thanks to the use of carbon fiber and ceramic brakes. With a staggering 1,527 horsepower generated by three engines, it reaches a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 1.97 seconds. Although the Tesla Model S Plaid still holds a slight edge in range (672 km vs. 630 km), Xiaomi is betting on speed to appeal to thrill-seekers.
Great Ambitions
Xiaomi’s entry into the high-end electric vehicle market marks a significant strategic shift. Since launching its first model, the standard SU7, in March 2024, the brand has seen strong demand in China, with delivery forecasts of 120,000 units by the end of 2024. The manufacturer also plans to increase its production capacity by expanding its factory by 2025, demonstrating its commitment to securing a lasting presence in the premium automotive sector.
