Apple is not limiting its AI deployment to just its devices. The tech giant claims that this move is necessary to make up for lost time and to demonstrate the superiority of its approach, aiming to deliver a flawless product.
AI Enhancements to the App Store
On Monday, with the release of iOS 18.1, Apple introduced the initial features of Apple Intelligence, though currently available only in the USA. Apple Intelligence now allows users to receive summaries of emails, messages, and notifications – a feature Tim Cook has highlighted repeatedly, seemingly tired of reading his emails.
However, the iPhone is not the only beneficiary of this technology. It appears that the App Store is set to adopt a similar AI-driven feature. As spotted by our American colleagues on a store page, Apple Intelligence will generate summaries of user reviews for apps.
For this feature to work, there needs to be a sufficient number of comments. Also, these summaries will not be available in all countries or regions.
The new review summaries will be updated in real time, meaning they will change each time an app receives a new review. Developers will have the option to report a summary they believe is inaccurate.
Currently, there are no clear details on how these summaries will be displayed. However, they are expected to appear alongside app descriptions and screenshots on an app’s main page in the App Store.
It’s important to note that, according to Apple, managing reviews on the App Store is particularly challenging given the sheer volume of apps, with many slipping through the cracks. In 2023, the company had to manage over 1.1 billion reviews and removed about 152 million fraudulent reviews. The integration of AI will likely help streamline this process!
