A Light-Hearted Human Comedy Set in the World of Sports
Created by Jason Keller (Ford v Ferrari), this ten-episode series stars Owen Wilson (who also serves as executive producer). The show is set to premiere on June 4, 2025, with the first three episodes, followed by a new episode every Wednesday until July 23.
Owen Wilson plays Pryce Cahill, a former golf prodigy whose career was derailed 20 years ago. Now disillusioned, recently divorced, and unemployed, he puts everything on the line for Santi, a promising 17-year-old golfer. The show, Stick, promises to be a warm comedy filled with wit and humanity, set in a world not often explored on television. Does this remind you of anyone?
A New Gem in TV Series!
Like The Studio, Stick features a diverse cast: Peter Dager as the young Santi, Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño, Lilli Kay, Judy Greer, and Timothy Olyphant. Golf enthusiasts will also find much to appreciate with numerous guest appearances by PGA tour stars such as Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, and Wyndham Clark.
Golf personalities and media figures like Jim Nantz, Trevor Immelman, and the influencers from the Good Good collective will also make cameo appearances, adding layers of intrigue for dedicated fans. This blend of fiction and golf culture promises a fresh take on a sport often viewed as elitist.
An Ambitious Production with Stellar Support
Behind the scenes, the series is overseen by Jason Keller, supported by an impressive group of executive producers: Ben Silverman, Guymon Casady, Rodney Ferrell, Howard T. Owens, among others. Directors include Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton (Little Miss Sunshine), David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers), as well as John Hamburg and MJ Delaney (Ted Lasso).
This experienced team aims to captivate comedy fans while delving into human relationships in an original setting. Following the footsteps of other Apple TV+ hits like Ted Lasso, Stick could well blend the excitement of an underrepresented sport on-screen with universal emotions.
