Not a “Lite” Version, but the Real Blender
The developers have emphasized a crucial point: this will not be a “light” or simplified version of Blender. The plan is to bring the entire range of desktop software capabilities to Apple’s tablet.
The app will target existing Blender users who want to continue their work on a mobile device, rather than catering to beginners. This approach not only demonstrates seriousness but also acknowledges the power of the M chips in the iPad Pro.
Redesigned Interface for Touch and Pencil
A major challenge is certainly adapting Blender’s interface, known for its complexity, to a touch and stylus-based environment. The initial designs shared by the development team reveal a streamlined interface with floating menus and contextual toolbars to maximize workspace.
Initially, development will focus on sculpting and object manipulation functions, which are most suited to stylus use.
When? We Don’t Know Yet…
However, patience is required. The Blender Foundation has not announced any release date, and the project is just getting started. A technical demonstration of the app running on an iPad Pro will be presented next month at the SIGGRAPH conference.

Following the iPad, developers plan to adapt Blender for other tablets, including Microsoft’s Surface and Android tablets.
What’s the Buzz?
This is a significant milestone confirming the status of the iPad Pro as a true professional creation tool. Following the introduction of Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, Blender fills a gap in the 3D domain. The iPad has the power; it just needed more flagship applications.
This announcement is another piece in Apple’s strategy to position its tablet as a credible computer replacement. The fact that such a significant and complex open-source project has chosen the iPad Pro as its first mobile platform sends a very strong signal. We’re excited to see the demo. And you, could the arrival of such powerful software on the iPad make you give up your Mac?
