Incredible! Oppo Find N5 Can Remotely Control Your Mac

The Oppo Find N5 isn’t just an ultra-thin foldable smartphone—it also introduces a feature that may appeal to many users: enhanced compatibility with Macs. This device not only eases file sharing but also allows you to remotely control a Mac, marking a first for an Android smartphone available outside China.

Seamless File Sharing Between Android and macOS

If you’ve ever tried transferring files between an Android device and a Mac, you know how frustrating it can be. Oppo is attempting to streamline this process with O+ Connect, an app that you install on your Mac. Once set up, it enables access to the phone’s files directly from macOS without needing a cable or any complicated third-party app.

This all happens over Wi-Fi, provided both devices are on the same network. You can view your photos without copying them, edit documents from your Mac, and sync everything automatically. The speed is quite impressive: Oppo claims you can transfer 100 photos in just 8 seconds.

But that’s not all. A forthcoming update should also allow direct access to the Mac’s files from the phone’s Files app. This is handy if you frequently switch between the two devices (like I do, and I’d love to have this feature on my Pixel).

The Find N5 Turns Into a Mini-Computer to Control a Mac

The most astonishing feature is the remote control functionality. Essentially, the Mac’s screen can be mirrored on the smartphone, and you can use it as if it were a real computer. You have two options:

Mini-laptop mode: by folding the Find N5 at 90 degrees, the top part displays macOS, and the bottom part becomes a trackpad (with multitouch gesture support) or a virtual keyboard.

Full-screen mode: the display covers the entire screen of the Find N5, giving you a bit more room.

Unlike file sharing, remote control works even if the Mac and the phone are not on the same network. In short, you can access your Mac from anywhere, as long as it’s turned on and connected to the Internet. Even Apple doesn’t offer this on its iPhones…

A Step Towards True Android-Mac Integration?

Oppo is one of the first manufacturers to offer this level of integration with macOS, which could attract those who juggle between Android and Apple devices. Moreover, according to Pete Lau, Product Manager at Oppo, you will soon be able to connect multiple Macs to a single Find N5.

It remains to be seen if this functionality will be smooth and practical for everyday use. Considering a Mac on an 8-inch screen can be quite limiting… but for a quick fix, it might just do the trick.
