After much speculation, Apple has finally unveiled the most budget-friendly option in tonight’s lineup: the iPhone 17, which sports a design that hasn’t changed much from the iPhone 16.

What the iPhone 17 Looks Like
There aren’t too many surprises with the new iPhone. The screen size has indeed increased to 6.3 inches, slightly larger than its predecessor. It now features ProMotion technology with a refresh rate of 120Hz, and an always-on display that adjusts down to 1 Hz.
The display boasts an impressive brightness of 3000 nits and a seven-layer anti-reflective coating, which should cut down on glare and distractions, making it much more readable in bright light conditions. Live activities and widgets remain visible on the lock screen.
The device is powered by the A19 chip (featuring a 3nm 16-core Neural Engine, 6-core CPU, and 5-core GPU) and sports the new Ceramic Shield 2 screen, which is twice as resistant to scratches. With the iPhone 17, Apple introduces the N1, a new in-house designed wireless network chip that supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread.
The sensors are arranged vertically and there’s no bar (similar to the iPhone 17 Pro), which doesn’t significantly change the design from last year. There are five new colors to choose from: gray, purple, blue, green/yellow, and white!
In terms of photography and video, the iPhone 17 is equipped with a 48MP main sensor (26mm) and a 12MP sensor (52mm) for zoom. The Ultra Wide angle has been merged into the main sensor (at 13mm).
Apple has added a new feature called Center Stage for photos. The compatible front camera now allows for 4K HDR filming with advanced stabilization. Thanks to the Dual Capture function, it’s possible to record simultaneously with the front and rear cameras, ideal for filming oneself while capturing the surroundings. During FaceTime calls or through third-party apps, Center Stage automatically adjusts the framing to keep the user centered and clearly visible.
For this iPhone 17, Apple promises—yet again—a full day’s battery life. Apple even claims it offers 8 hours more video playback than the iPhone 16. Regarding charging, it is noted that just 10 minutes of charging can provide 8 hours of video playback. (We’ll see how it performs in real life!)
The iPhone 17 will be available for pre-order this Friday, September 12, with availability starting on September 19. It will be available in 256GB (for $969) and 512GB (for $1219) models.
