Are Launches Running Behind Schedule?
According to Mark Gurman, both products could hit the market in April if everything goes as planned
, aligning more likely with iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4. Initial rumors had suggested an imminent release
, which seemed unusual given Apple’s typical timing and the slowdown in Asia due to the Lunar New Year.
What to Expect from the iPhone SE 4 (or iPhone 16E?)
Rumors indicate that the iPhone SE 4 could be a game changer in Apple’s line of budget-friendly models. It might even undergo a renaming to be called the iPhone 16E, though the exact name is still up for decision.
This new model is expected to feature a more contemporary design, possibly drawing inspiration from the iPhone 14 or even the iPhone 16, with a 6.1-inch edge-to-edge screen. According to alleged CAD files, it would be the largest iPhone SE ever designed. And for many users, this is a major letdown. Apple had previously discontinued the iPhone mini and seems set to do the same with the smallest form factor—a real shame since many customers loved the compact size that easily fits into a pocket!
This generation is likely to be the first to ditch the Home button and Touch ID for Face ID and USB-C. It is expected to feature a 48-megapixel camera with a single rear lens, be powered by a new A-series chip (possibly from the iPhone 16?), and include 8 GB of RAM optimized for Apple Intelligence. Finally, it would incorporate Apple’s first in-house designed 5G modem. The Action Button, introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro, remains uncertain for this model.
Apple might also revise its pricing strategy to position the iPhone SE 4 as a more competitive alternative to mid-range Android phones. Indeed, it appears to be aiming to rejuvenate its SE series while repositioning it at a slightly higher price point, justified by significant upgrades in AI, RAM, camera, and size.
What to Expect from the iPad 11?
For this upcoming model, Apple is expected to stick with a 10.9-inch display, akin to the iPad Air’s design, and include WiFi 6E (similar to the iPad mini 7). It might also introduce some fresh current colors. Although the iPad already features a USB-C port, it could offer faster data transfer speeds. As for the Apple Pencil, it’s unclear which model will be compatible, possibly the Apple Pencil with USB-C.
The iPad 10 is equipped with an A14 chip (from the iPhone 12), which is starting to feel a bit dated. If Apple plans to enhance the iPad 11 with AI, it will need at least an A17 chip and 8 GB of RAM (up from the current 4 GB). Mark Gurman also mentioned the possibility of a new type of expensive Magic Keyboard accessory for the iPad and/or iPad Air, expected to launch by mid-2025.
As for the price, there have been no rumors yet regarding the iPad 11. Thus, Apple might very well maintain its current pricing range. For storage, hopes are high to move from 64 GB to at least 128 GB.
