The black and red platform aims to innovate with a concept that blurs the lines between documentary and sociological experiment. It recently aired the first episode of Famous Last Words, a series of interviews recorded with renowned figures, but only broadcasted posthumously.

A Puzzling Format Inspired by Denmark
Derived from the Danish series Det Sidste Ord (which translates to “The Last Words”), the version commissioned by Netflix is helmed by Brad Falchuk, co-creator of Glee and American Horror Story.
Far from the dramatic flair of his usual productions, Falchuk conducts interviews with his still-living guests on a sparse set: an empty stage, filmed by remotely operated cameras. In this somewhat somber environment, the interviewer often addresses the subjects in the past tense, explicitly reminding them that they are supposed to be ‘already dead’ or might be by the time the show airs!
Jane Goodall, Unfiltered
If the episode dedicated to Jane Goodall sets the tone, Famous Last Words promises candid and uncompromising testimonials. Known for her outspokenness, the British scientist takes full liberty in what stands as her last filmed interview.
There are people I absolutely dislike, and I would love to put them on one of Elon Musk’s rockets and send them to a planet he’s sure to discover… He would be the host. Along with him, I’d send Trump… Then Putin, and President Xi. I would definitely include Netanyahu and his far-right government. Let’s ship them all off together
, declares the primatologist.
These comments perfectly capture the spirit of the series: providing personalities the space to express their ultimate truth, free from any fear of political or media repercussions.
A Secret Guest List
The mystery still looms over the upcoming episodes. Netflix closely guards the list of figures who have agreed to participate. The goal is twofold: to keep the surprise intact and to ensure that the testimonies are not exploited prematurely.
By choosing to air posthumous confessions, Netflix skirts controversy while creating a unique cultural event. The series Famous Last Words does not merely explore the trajectories of iconic figures: it also probes our relationship with memory, death, and legacy.
