Play Doom on a Doom Box: Ultimate Meta Gaming Experience Unveiled!

Limited Run Games is launching a collector’s edition of Doom and Doom II, priced at $666.66 and limited to 666 units. The unique feature: the included box itself allows direct gameplay without the need for a console or PC. Yes, really.

A Physical Edition with a Playable Case

Starting April 18, Limited Run Games will offer a new collector’s edition that bundles Doom and Doom II, tagged at $666.66. This edition, dubbed the Will It Run Edition, embraces the well-known trend of hardware hacks of the original 1993 game, which has been made playable on various items—a topic we often discuss. Here, it’s the case itself that incorporates a screen and all necessary components to run the game.

The edition is restricted to 666 copies and will be available for pre-order for one month. No delivery date has been specified yet.

Multiple Formats Included

Besides the playable case, the package includes several physical versions of the games: one for PlayStation 5, one for Xbox Series X, one for Nintendo Switch, and a download code for Steam. There’s also a mini-console shaped like a Cacodemon, which can also be used to play Doom. The controls are built into the creature’s teeth.

The set is rounded out with other items: a collection of four audio cassettes (featuring both original and modernized versions of the music), a Cacodemon figurine that floats above a magnetic base, a pack of five collectible cards, and a certificate of authenticity.

Expanded Content

In addition to Doom and Doom II, the compilation includes several expansions: TNT: Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment, Sigil, Sigil II, Master Levels for Doom II, No Rest for the Living, and Legacy of Rust (released in 2024). A new multiplayer pack featuring 25 deathmatch maps is also part of the deal.

The versions offered include several enhancements: compatibility with modern controllers, gyroscope support, quick save, mod support, new accessibility options, and translations in eight languages.

Two other editions are available: a standard edition priced at $29.99, and a ā€œBig Boxā€ edition at $99.99, which includes the audio cassettes and collectible cards, but neither the playable case nor the mini-console.
