A Larger Battery Thanks to a New Internal Design
The teardown confirms a previously circulated rumor: the iPhone 16e is indeed equipped with a 4005 mAh battery, a significant upgrade from the iPhone 16 standard’s 3561 mAh battery. Apple redesigned the internal layout of the device to accommodate this larger battery, mainly by reducing the size of the camera module.
Like previous models, the iPhone 16e uses an electrochemical adhesive to secure the battery. This technique allows technicians (and experienced users who might want to undertake home repairs) to facilitate its removal using a low-voltage electric current—a process that can be initiated with a simple 9-volt battery or a USB-C charger.
The New C1 Modem and A18 Chip
At the heart of the iPhone 16e, you’ll find the A18 chip—Apple’s latest processor—and most notably, the C1 modem, designed internally by the Cupertino-based company. This modem represents a significant step in Apple’s efforts to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm and to bring more of its strategic components in-house.
However, Rewa Technology notes that the A18 chip appears more difficult to remove than in previous models. For authorized repair services, this shouldn’t pose a problem since the processor and motherboard are replaced as a unit. However, this could complicate precise PCB repairs, making depot repairs more challenging.

No MagSafe: A Controversial Decision
The most surprising aspect of this teardown is undoubtedly the absence of MagSafe. Unlike other models in the iPhone 16 lineup, the iPhone 16e skips this magnetic charging technology introduced in 2020.
This decision has already sparked debate among users and experts: Is Apple looking to cut costs, or does this signify a new strategy for its future entry-level devices?
A Promising First Look That Raises Questions
This initial teardown of the iPhone 16e highlights Apple’s technical and strategic choices: greater autonomy with a larger battery, a step towards more independence with the C1 modem, but a controversial decision with the removal of MagSafe. It remains to be seen whether these changes will win over users… or make them hesitant.
The complete disassembly video is available on Rewa Technology’s YouTube channel. Further in-depth analyses are expected soon, especially from iFixit, which will likely provide a more detailed review of the repairability of the device.
