Taylor Swift’s Latest Album Shatters Streaming Records!

At the age of 34, Taylor Swift continues her meteoric rise. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, the American singer-songwriter has just surpassed a monumental milestone: over 105 million albums sold, making her the first female artist to reach this mark.

The announcement was made on September 30th by the organization via Instagram, confirming a career that blends traditional commercial success with overwhelming dominance on streaming platforms.

A Spectacular Launch for Her 12th Album

As expected, The Life of a Showgirl — Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated twelfth album, released on Friday, October 3rd — has already proven to be a commercial hit despite receiving a mix of lukewarm and even harsh reviews. Unapologetically pop, the album shattered streaming records the day after its release across major platforms.

The album was first announced this summer on the New Heights podcast by Travis and Jason Kelce, and it featured a special event film that was shown exclusively on October 4th and 5th in several countries, including France.

Streaming, a Record-Setting Catalyst

For now, and logically so, her 2014 album 1989 remains her biggest hit with 14 million copies sold, followed by Fearless (2008, 11 million) and Red (2012, 8 million). Her debut self-titled album (2006) and the recent The Tortured Poets Department (2024), both at 8 million units, round out her impressive record. These numbers reinforce the image of an artist who transcends eras and appeals to multiple generations of listeners.

But beyond physical and digital sales, it’s on streaming platforms where Taylor Swift has truly pulled ahead. According to Spotify, she is now the most-streamed female artist of all time on the platform, amassing over 70 billion listens. Her album Midnights had already broken the record for the most streamed day in Spotify history in October 2022, a feat she repeated with The Tortured Poets Department in 2024, which garnered 300 million streams in its first week on Spotify and Apple Music.

YouTube also showcases her influence: the music video for Anti-Hero has exceeded 600 million views, confirming the pop star’s power in a digital ecosystem where few female artists achieve this level of exposure.

Despite her success, Taylor Swift still trails behind the male heavyweights in the certified sales rankings: the Beatles (183 million albums sold), Garth Brooks (162 million), Elvis Presley (146.5 million), and the Eagles (120 million). However, her prolific output — already 12 studio albums to her credit — and her dominance on streaming platforms could narrow the gap in the coming years.
