Vivo X200 Ultra to Feature Mega Zoom with External Lens!

Vivo has announced the upcoming release of a detachable zoom lens designed specifically for the X200 Ultra. This camera module, developed in collaboration with Zeiss, will offer an optical zoom of 8.7x and a hybrid zoom up to 70x. The smartphone and its accessories are set to be unveiled on April 21 in China.

An External Lens Compatible with the X200 Ultra

Vivo has revealed a new detachable zoom lens to accompany the launch of its upcoming flagship smartphone, the X200 Ultra. The module, developed in partnership with Zeiss, attaches directly to the phone’s 200 MP periscopic telephoto lens via a dedicated adapter. It features an optical construction with 13 glass lenses.

This external zoom enhances the native sensor’s optical range, which offers 3.7x zoom, extending it up to 8.7x in pure optical terms. In hybrid zoom mode, the focal length can reach up to 1,600 mm, equivalent to a maximum digital zoom of 70x. According to Vivo, the images remain usable up to 800 mm, which corresponds to approximately 35x zoom.

A Photography Kit with Battery and Physical Controls

The lens is part of a broader photography kit designed for the X200 Ultra. This kit includes a protective case, a grip with a photo trigger, a built-in 2,300 mAh battery, and a USB-C connector. The design of the kit is inspired by traditional camera bodies, with additional physical controls, including a video button and a slot for a wrist strap.

The kit primarily targets users who seek better handling for mobile photography. It is not a standalone device, but an accessory that enhances the phone’s capabilities by physically attaching to it.

Advanced Photography Features

The X200 Ultra already boasts features geared towards photography. It includes a main 50 MP sensor (23 mm), an ultra-wide 50 MP lens (15 mm), and a 200 MP telephoto lens (85 mm). A 32 MP front sensor is also present. Vivo promises video quality comparable to other high-end smartphones.

The smartphone and its accessories will be officially revealed in China on April 21. No pricing has yet been announced for the lens or the photography kit. Like other Ultra models from the brand, the X200 Ultra is likely to remain exclusive to the Chinese market, but it still represents an intriguing novelty. The phone operates on Origin OS, a system not available internationally.
