What’s Coming to Apple TV+ This May? Exclusive Sneak Peek!

Apple TV+ is beefing up its spring lineup with the introduction of two highly anticipated original series, revealing the first trailers this week for Long Way Home and Murderbot, both featuring well-known actors from film and television.

Ewan McGregor Hits the Road Again in Long Way Home

Last week, Apple TV+ offered a sneak peek at Long Way Home, the latest installment in the adventure documentary series starring Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. Following the success of Long Way Round, Long Way Down, and Long Way Up, the duo is back on their bikes, this time journeying from Scotland to England on restored vintage motorcycles—taking, of course, the scenic and lengthier route.

The journey will span fifteen countries, with stops as far north as the Arctic Circle, and visits to Scandinavia, the Baltic states, and Eastern Europe, promising a road trip filled with human connections, unexpected adventures, and local experiences. The series continues to deliver stunning visuals and a sense of escapism, wrapped in a cinematic format.

Directed and produced by returning collaborators David Alexanian and Russ Malkin, this new season maintains the spirit of the previous ones, blending adventure, friendship, and exploration on two wheels.

Murderbot: A Quirky Sci-Fi Series Starring Alexander Skarsgård

A complete shift in genre with Murderbot, another new addition to the lineup. This comedic sci-fi series stars Alexander Skarsgård, who leaves behind his roles as Erik and Tarzan, and is based on the award-winning Murderbot Diaries novels by Martha Wells, celebrated with multiple Hugo and Nebula awards.

The series features a rogue security android who, despite a deep distrust of human emotions, finds itself empathetically connected to its clients. Portrayed by Skarsgård, this cynical Murderbot would much rather binge-watch romantic dramas alone but instead finds itself embroiled in a dangerous mission while concealing its newfound autonomy.

The series premiere is set for May 16, 2025, with episodes releasing weekly until July 11. The show will run for ten episodes and promises to be as quirky as it is touching, featuring a cast that includes Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, and Tamara Podemski. Produced by Paramount Television Studios and directed by the Weitz brothers, Chris and Paul, Murderbot will combine dark humor, sci-fi elements, and introspection on AI, in a visually rich format that aligns with the Apple TV+ ethos.

Two very different projects, yet both are promising, underscoring Apple’s streaming platform’s ambitions in distinctly unique genres: high-end documentary adventure on one side, and offbeat sci-fi on the other.
