At first glance, the Blink Outdoor 4 looks similar to its predecessors: a small, compact black box designed to withstand rain and sun. However, this time, Amazon has packed a powerful feature under the hood: up to four years of battery life. No need for recharging or pulling cables across your yard. Just insert two AA batteries, set up the Blink app, and forget about the camera until 2027. Well, almost.
By default, the battery life is two years, but with an expansion module (available for $29.99 or included in a pack for $99.99), you can double that. This is especially convenient for those who dislike climbing ladders.
Enhanced Detection Capabilities
The camera is more than just a passive observer: it includes a custom chip to improve motion detection. For those who dread unnecessary notifications with every leaf that stirs, Amazon offers—via subscription—person detection. The camera can thus distinguish between a human and a hedgehog (or even a stray ball). Expect to spend between $3 to $10 per month for this service, after a 30-day free trial.
The field of vision is also wider, and the low-light sensitivity has been enhanced, promising clearer images even at dusk.
Cloud, Local, and Alexa Integration
When it comes to storage, the Blink range continues to offer flexibility: cloud storage (via subscription) or local storage through the Sync Module Core. Up to ten cameras can be connected to this hub, allowing you to monitor your entire home.
And of course, the Blink Outdoor 4 is compatible with Alexa. You can view the video feed on an Echo Show, trigger routines, or even talk to your delivery person from the comfort of your couch.
Security and Privacy at the Forefront
Amazon also emphasizes data encryption and hosting in Europe, with the option to remotely disable the camera (which immediately cuts off its microphone and video). This is a plus for privacy-conscious users—or simply those who want to avoid false alerts while mowing the lawn.
